The show exposed a great number of pieces by Gober, including his most famous, like the "Long Haired Cheese" from 1992, and his mutilated limbs coming out of the walls. I was familiar to Gober, as an artist, I relied on his work as references and I still do, but I never saw his work live, and I have to say, after experiencing them at the MoMA, these objects have the ability to transport you to another atmosphere.
Robert Gober, in this exhibition, breathes back the desire for meaning + flawless execution into the contemporary realm. His work is a combination of skilled craft, evidenced by the incredible detail, realism and high finish in all of his pieces, together with a load of emotions, perfectly conveyed by the accuracy of his sculptural compositions.
The fact that it was held at MoMA, elevates the museum quality of Gober's work, something I definitely appraise as an artist. It is highly advised to see this exhibit, if the chance allow, get as close as you can, these pieces as absolutely drawing.
